To give you an example, the names will be changed for obvious reasons, I am a member of a FaceBook group of people who collect watches and there are a few YoTube channels dedicated to the subject, what has come to light recently is that there is a lot of rivalry and back stabbing behind closed doors, however, every now and then word gets out and the name calling begins.
What amazes me is that they get really personal at times when there is obviously no need for it, I was on my usual FaceBook group, when someone up loaded a part of a live feed of one of the guys who has a YouTube channel being verbally attacked by another ex-member over something that was 'allegedly' said on one of the videos. Now I am not perfect, when upset and I do use bad language to often, but there is the "C" word that I never use because I find it really offensive and I have on more than one occasion thumped someone who called me that, anyway, the guy shouting and ranting frequently used the "C" word and others, at times in an uncontrollable rage, what's interesting is the guy on the end of it remained extremely calm and tried several times to address the accusations made against him, but the other guys just shouted over him and just kept calling the other guy a "C", now, the strange thing is the 2 guys in dispute were on someone else's channel, so man number 3 should have just disconnected them both and told them to sort it out off line, the 2 guys are in 2 different continents so meeting up and sorting it is never going to happen, however a civil conversation via private messaging would I think been an answer, I should at this point tell you that only part of the live feed was shown so there maybe more to this than we have seen, but I will go back to the reason for this post is, why has a general conversation viewed by so many got so personal? It just doesn't make sense.
I understand that conversations and heated discussions get personal, but you should stop and think, why continue in public, discuss it in private, now the guy doing the swearing had a right to be angry if the other guy had indeed called him something that even I find offensive, and I would be very angry about, but not in public, his argument was based on a video, great you have proof, take it to a court and make a claim for deformation of character, arguing on line gets you nowhere other than a hospital after you have a heart attack.
This is not a unique incident, I have seen several YouTube videos where people call and accuse others of stuff, this where I think the YouTube police should step in, now I know all about freedom of speech and all that but when you are possibly breaking the law, as above in that feed, YouTube should remove the video/Feed and ban those doing it from their site. I know it seems harsh, but, If a 10 year old girl stumbles upon that video and watches it, she is likely to learn a whole new vocabulary, so come on YouTube, get your act together, the same goes for Facebook.
As a responsible adult, I feel that I should contact Facebook and report it,have it removed and those involved banned from the site, yeah I know, Grumpy Old Man again rearing his ugly head to say his piece.
Nuff said.
